My Version of Hot Pot

I still had some left over rice noodles and I was craving the hot pot from the other night so this morning I boiled water and added some chicken bouillon, pickled Chinese mustard, chili oil and it made a great spicy tangy noodle soup.
When Ana got up I told her to use the soup still in the pot and add more noodles. Emma and Winnie made their own soup with seaweed and vegetables.

Arts and Crafts

I always have my guests do arts and crafts to keep them busy. Everyone seems to enjoy it. Winnie said that they have this in China but they never have time to do it because they are always busy studying. She said its very relaxing and that it makes her heart feel warm.

Thai Food

I had to confess to the girls today that I actually don't eat "American" food - that I prefer all ethnic food. So today was the first time that I took them out to eat and I took them to Thai Chili in Calimesa. It's my favorite place out here. They enjoyed the food.

Cupcakes

In keeping with the cupcake hat I had the girls make cupcakes that they took the next day to share with their friends. They said that they had never made cupcakes before.

Cupcake Hat

I don't know how or where I got the idea into my head about knitting a cupcake hat. These are a few snapshots I had on my phone but I'm just following my own pattern for now.

I saw this fun yarn at Joann's but it wasn't on sale. I think it will look really nice as frosting with sprinkles on my next cupcake hat.

So far so good.

Wow! This is soo cool! I like how it is coming out.

This is when I had to stop to make dinner. I can't wait to see how it looks.

Chinese Dinner

Emma and Winnie wanted to cook a Chinese dish for us but unfortunately neither one of them knows how to cook. They watched a Chinese video and got cooking away with the ingredients we brought home from the market on Sunday.

This turned out to be a success! It has a green stalky vegetable that Winnie says is like garlic and diced pork, red peppers, more whole garlic and ginger slices and Chinese condiments. Gustavo actually asked for seconds.

Chinese Groceries

I took the girls to the Chinese grocery store on Sunday and they were so happy to see that many of their favorite items were there.

Arroyo #2

My sister, Martha came to visit from Texas and brought a lot of nice yarn so I knit her her very own first shawl just like the purple one that I made for my niece. I finished the bind off in the airport right before she got on her flight.

This is the final part of the lace! Yay! Now just some simple garter stitch and I can hand it over.

The blocking was done the night before my sister left for Texas while the shawl was still on the needles. I felt more comfortable with at least blocking the lace part because she does not knit and she also wanted it a bit longer. I was just too tired to go on.

Ta Daaa! I only had about 10 stitches or so to bind off and I did it at the airport right before she left.

Pin Cushion and Thread Catcher

I'm a winner! I won the pin cushion and thread catcher from Sew Much 2 Luv. It is very nice!

Silly Rabbits

This is the first year we have seen bunnies in both our front and back yards. Gustavo doesn't like it because they eat the flowers and grass and leave behind their bunny poop and lots of it. Today he was a rotten apple and three golf balls at them to scare them away.

Gifts

These two wonderful girls came downstairs bearing gifts and lots of them

Winnie and Emma

My Chinese students arrived late last night so I let them sleep in until about 8
and off to breakfast at McDonald's.

Chilaquiles

I had a craving for chilaquiles late in the afternoon. They aren't just for breakfast around here anymore! So I crisped up some tortilla strips and made a spicy sauce in no time.
They came out extra spicy so thank goodness I had sour cream in the fridge and some Parmesan cheese for an extra kick.

Caterpillars

I made two new caterpillar outfits for newborns modeled after The Very Hungry Caterpillar book.
I had fun making these.
I already mailed one in Saturday all the way to Washington state.

This is the final product! It is a lot of work weaving in the ends of the different yarn but I really like how it came out.

I tried my own version of the eyes instead of the one in the pattern.

My signature of authenticity - a red crochet heart! You will find them exclusively on my hand made items.

I made my own version of the antenna too by making an I-cord on 5 stitches that I picked up from the hat itself.
